Therapy for Adolescents

Adolescence is a transformative stage, full of change, increasing independence, and fundamental questions about oneself and others.

This can naturally create confusion and difficulty, and when combined with previous challenges or complex relationships, it can lead to distress. Therapy with adolescents typically takes place through conversation, similar to therapy with adults. Topics that often arise include identity formation, social pressures, academic stress, conflicts with parents, body image, and more.

Parent consultations sometimes accompany therapy with adolescents. Since developing separation from parents is a natural and healthy part of adolescence, we maintain therapy as a safe, independant, and autonomous space for the young person. Together, we’ll determine the appropriate level of parental involvement. Parent consultations remain a space for parents to reflect on their adolescent’s needs, seek advice, and develop tools for supporting them.
